Understanding Light Chemical Protection Classifications
Light chemical coveralls are typically classified under two European protection types:
- Type 6 coveralls provide limited protection against light liquid chemical splashes and overspray. These are the most common light chemical suit option for tasks involving low-concentration chemical contact, spray painting and pesticide application.
- Type 5 coveralls provide protection against airborne solid particulates, including hazardous dusts such as asbestos and silica. Type 5 garments are commonly used in asbestos remediation, insulation work and dusty industrial environments.
Many garments in this category carry both Type 5 and Type 6 ratings, offering combined protection against particulates and light liquid splashes in a single light coverall.
Comfort and Breathability
Because light chemical coveralls are often worn for extended periods during routine maintenance and industrial work, breathability and comfort are important selection criteria. Lightweight breathable coveralls and breathable chemical suit options are manufactured from materials that improve airflow and reduce heat stress during prolonged wear, without compromising their protective rating.
Lightweight work coveralls in this category are also commonly chosen for tasks where freedom of movement matters, including confined space work, maintenance shutdowns and inspection tasks.
